DGT Director General Bimo Wijayanto Flags Slowing Tax Revenue Growth in March 2026

JAKARTA. Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto is closely monitoring the trend of tax revenue realization in the first quarter of 2026, as growth began to slow in March.

According to his data, as of the end of March 2026, tax revenue grew by 20.7% compared to the same period in 2025. This is lower than the growth recorded in January and February 2026, which reached 30.7% and 30.4%, respectively.

Although still posting positive growth, the slowdown trend needs to be anticipated as it could affect overall tax revenue performance in 2026.

“This is a serious warning,” Bimo said during his presentation at a seminar titled “Looking Ahead to the 2026 Economic Outlook and Formulating Strategies to Safeguard State Revenue” on Wednesday (April 8) in Jakarta.

Breakdown of Tax Revenue – March 2026

Based on the presentation, Bimo detailed tax revenue realization as of March 31, 2026:

  • Corporate Income Tax: IDR 43.2 trillion (up 5.2%)
  • Individual Income Tax and Income Tax Article (ITA) 21: IDR 60.5 trillion (up 14.2%)
  • Final Income Tax, ITA 22, and ITA 26: IDR 76.3 trillion (up 4.6%)
  • VAT and Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (STLG): IDR 148.5 trillion (up 50.8%)
  • Other taxes: IDR 66.2 trillion (up 8%)
  • VAT Slows, Individual Income Tax Rises

By tax type, performance varied across categories.

Several tax types recorded stronger growth, including Corporate Income Tax, Individual Income Tax and ITA 21, as well as Final Income Tax, ITA 22, and ITA 26. These increased from previous growth rates of 4.4%, 3.4%, and 4.4% to 5.2%, 14.2%, and 4.6%, respectively.

Meanwhile, VAT and STLG revenue experienced a slowdown, declining from a previous growth of 97.4% to around 50.8%.

According to Bimo, the slowdown was mainly due to a shift in the timing of VAT and STLG payments. While many payments last year were made on March 27–28, some payments this year were deferred to April.

Nevertheless, Bimo assessed that VAT and STLG performance remains very strong, with growth still at a high level of around 50%. (KEN)
