JAKARTA. Indonesia's Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) reported that tax revenue from the digital economy reached IDR52.85 trillion as of the end of May 2026. The revenue came from four main sources: Value Added Tax (VAT) on Electronic Commerce (PMSE), taxes on crypto asset trading, fintech taxes, and taxes on transactions conducted through the Government Procurement Information System (SIPP).
According to DGT data, the largest contribution came from VAT on PMSE, amounting to IDR40.55 trillion. This was followed by IDR5.26 trillion from SIPP transactions, IDR4.98 trillion from the fintech sector, and IDR2.06 trillion from crypto asset trading.
The figures represent cumulative revenue since Indonesia introduced its digital economy taxation framework in 2020.
VAT on Electronic Commerce Remains the Largest Contributor
Revenue from VAT on PMSE has continued to grow steadily since it was first implemented. Collections reached IDR731.4 billion in 2020, rising to IDR3.9 trillion in 2021, IDR5.51 trillion in 2022, IDR6.76 trillion in 2023, IDR8.44 trillion in 2024, IDR10.32 trillion in 2025, and IDR4.88 trillion through May 2026.
The tax is collected by digital businesses appointed by the DGT as VAT collectors. As of the end of May 2026, the DGT had appointed 271 companies as PMSE VAT collectors.

Crypto Tax Revenue Reaches IDR2.06 Trillion
The DGT also reported that tax revenue from crypto asset trading reached IDR2.06 trillion through the end of May 2026. The total comprised IDR1.18 trillion in Income Tax Article (ITA) 22 and IDR881.82 billion in domestic VAT.
Annual crypto tax collections stood at IDR246.54 billion in 2022, IDR220.89 billion in 2023, IDR620.38 billion in 2024, IDR796.74 billion in 2025, and IDR174.46 billion through May 2026.
Fintech Tax Revenue Hits IDR4.98 Trillion
Meanwhile, tax revenue from the fintech sector reached IDR4.98 trillion through the end of May 2026.
The total consisted of IDR1.4 trillion in Income Tax Article (ITA) 23 on loan interest received by domestic taxpayers and permanent establishments, IDR727.91 billion in Income Tax Article (ITA) 26 on loan interest received by foreign taxpayers, and IDR2.85 trillion in domestic VAT.
By year of collection, fintech tax revenue amounted to IDR446.39 billion in 2022, IDR1.11 trillion in 2023, IDR1.48 trillion in 2024, IDR1.37 trillion in 2025, and IDR574.38 billion through May 2026.
