Government Set to Relaunch Delayed Electric Motorcycle Incentives This Year

JAKARTA. The electric motorcycle purchase incentive has officially been included in the government’s economic stimulus package. The government is aiming to launch the program as early as this year, despite initial delays in its rollout.
Susiwijono Moegiarso, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, explained that the ministry has received the technical regulations from the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin). These regulations are currently under review to ensure they align with other stimulus programs. "We’re integrating everything into a single Economic Stimulus Package," Susi said in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/9), as quoted by Bisnis.com.
Susi acknowledged that the electric motorcycle incentive has faced multiple delays. However, with the legal framework now provided by the Ministry of Industry, the program is expected to move forward.
"Yes, we have to push it, Mr. Coordinating Minister (Airlangga Hartarto) is committed to accelerating the Economic Stimulus because the third quarter needs a stronger push," he added.
He also noted that the Coordinating Ministry is currently reviewing existing policies while assessing public interest in the incentive.
"Yes, we’ve received a letter from the Ministry of Industry. Mr. Coordinating Minister has already stated that we are re-evaluating third-quarter stimulus programs. In addition, he’s also preparing programs for 2026," he said.
Susi added that the review not only covers technical regulations but also the readiness of the public to benefit from the incentive. For that reason, the government is committed to designing a simpler mechanism to make the program more accessible to consumers.
"If there’s strong demand, the uptake will likely be high. That’s why we’re working to simplify the process and other aspects," he explained.
According to CNNIndonesia.com, the IDR 7 million incentive program for electric motorcycles officially ended in 2024, with a total of 60,857 units distributed under the scheme. The Ministry of Industry has proposed that the incentive be extended into 2025. (KEN)
