Tax Extensification 2024: DGT Expands Tax Base with 72,640 New Taxpayers

JAKARTA. Throughout 2024, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) successfully registered 72,640 new taxpayers through tax extensification activities. This effort is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the tax base and boosting state revenue from the taxation sector.
“In 2024, a total of 72,640 new taxpayer additions resulted from the extensification activities conducted,” said Dwi Astuti, Director of Extension, Services, and Public Relations of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT), Dwi Astuti, as quoted from kontan.co.id on Wednesday (14/5).
Dwi further noted that the number of new taxpayers through extensification for 2025 is still being calculated.
To support this extensification initiative, the DGT utilizes data and information gathered through Field Data Collection Activities (KPDL). In addition, the DGT continues to develop information systems and applications that facilitate the identification of new targets, which are then compiled into a List of Extensification Targets (DSE).
“Through these efforts, we hope to further strengthen and expand the tax base, ultimately contributing to optimizing tax revenue,” she added.
Trend of New Taxpayer Registrations
Referring to data from previous years, the number of new taxpayers resulting from extensification activities has experienced fluctuations. In 2017, the number reached 699,566 new taxpayers. This figure rose sharply in the following years, with 1,044,815 new taxpayers in 2018, and peaking at 1,261,070 in 2019.
However, this trend began to decline in the subsequent years. In 2020, the number of new taxpayers dropped drastically to 112,519, then fell even further to 30,927 in 2021. The figure gradually increased to 34,599 in 2022, then surged to 73,631 in 2023. In 2024, the number slightly decreased to 72,640 new taxpayers.
With continuously improved strategies and technological support, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) hopes that extensification efforts will remain effective and significantly contribute to strengthening state revenue. (KEN)
