DGT Appoints Two AI Companies as VAT Collectors for Electronic Commerce

JAKARTA. Indonesia's Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has appointed two companies in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector as collectors of Value Added Tax (VAT) on Electronic Commerce (PMSE).

The two companies are Kling AI Pte. Ltd. and PLAUD LLC. The DGT designated both companies as VAT collectors for electronic commerce in May 2026.

The DGT stated that the appointment of the two AI companies reflects the expanding scope of VAT collection on electronic commerce in line with the development of digital business models.

In addition to Kling AI and PLAUD LLC, the DGT also appointed five other digital companies as VAT collectors for electronic commerce in May 2026.

The five companies are Strava, Inc., Envato Pty Ltd, Envato Elements Pty Ltd, The Nielsen Norman Group, Inc., and Law School Admission Council, Inc.

VAT on Electronic Commerce Revenue Reaches IDR 40.55 Trillion

With the addition of these seven companies, the total number of VAT collectors for electronic commerce appointed by the DGT has reached 271.

Meanwhile, VAT revenue from electronic commerce has reached IDR 40.55 trillion. The amount represents the cumulative revenue collected since the VAT on electronic commerce policy was introduced in 2020.

Specifically, VAT revenue from electronic commerce amounted to IDR 731.4 billion in 2020, IDR 3.9 trillion in 2021, IDR 5.51 trillion in 2022, IDR 6.76 trillion in 2023, IDR 8.44 trillion in 2024, IDR 10.32 trillion in 2025, and IDR 4.88 trillion through May 2026.

For information, VAT on electronic commerce is collected by companies appointed by the DGT. These include Foreign Merchants, Foreign Service Providers, Foreign Electronic Commerce Platform Operators, as well as domestic electronic commerce businesses, including Domestic Electronic Commerce Platform Operators.
