How to Activate Your Coretax Account: A Mandatory Step Before Filing Your Annual Tax Return
To exercise tax rights and obligations through the Coretax system, taxpayers must first activate their Coretax account, including when filing their Annual Income Tax Return (SPT).
Therefore, every taxpayer needs to understand the required steps to activate their Coretax account in accordance with the applicable rules.
This article outlines the complete process for activating a Coretax account, based on information provided by the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT).
Legal Basis for Coretax Account Activation
The provisions on taxpayer account activation in Coretax are regulated under Article 6 of the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 81 of 2024.
In addition to being completed electronically through the Taxpayer Portal in Coretax, activation may also be carried out in person at a Tax Office (KPP) or a Tax Service, Outreach, and Consultation Office (KP2KP).
Below is the full excerpt of the taxpayer account activation provision:
Article 6
To exercise tax rights and fulfill tax obligations electronically through the Taxpayer Portal, as referred to in Article 4 paragraph (2) letter a, the Director General of Taxes provides a Taxpayer Account for every taxpayer.
(2) The Taxpayer Account referred to in paragraph (1) can be used by the taxpayer upon completing the Taxpayer Account activation.
(3) The application for Taxpayer Account activation, as referred to in paragraph (2), may be submitted:
- electronically through the Taxpayer Portal; or
- directly at a Tax Office or a Tax Service, Outreach, and Consultation Office.
(4) The activation application, as referred to in paragraph (2), may be approved as long as the taxpayer’s email address and mobile phone number have been validated.

Risks of Not Activating Your Coretax Account
If taxpayers do not activate their Coretax account, they will be unable to fulfill their tax obligations. Starting from the 2026 tax year, all tax services will be fully integrated into the Coretax system, including the filing of the Annual Income Tax Return (SPT Tahunan).
So, make sure you activate your Coretax account before the end of the 2025 tax year. Keep in mind that the filing period for the 2025 Individual and Corporate Annual Income Tax Returns will begin as soon as the tax year ends, on 1 January 2026. (ASP)
