MUC Bijak Webinar: A Complete Review of PER-15/2025, the New Era of Crypto Taxation
JAKARTA. The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has just issued a new regulation, Director General Regulation Number PER-15/PJ/2025, concerning specific criteria and the appointment of other parties to collect, remit, and report income tax on trade conducted through electronic systems (PMSE). One of the key topics covered in the regulation is crypto taxation. To provide a deeper review of the rules governing digital asset transactions, MUC Consulting is once again hosting the MUC Bicara Pajak (Bijak) Webinar.
This latest regulation reflects a significant shift in the government’s approach to crypto assets. Previously considered a commodity, crypto is now regulated as a financial instrument under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK). Under the new rules, crypto trading is no longer subject to Value Added Tax (VAT). Instead, it is imposed with Income Tax (ITA) 22 at 0.21% of the transaction value, which must be withheld by designated electronic system trading operators (PMSE).
PER-15/2025 also sets out tax provisions for services related to crypto transactions—ranging from electronic infrastructure providers to other digital asset ecosystem services. With the number of crypto investors in Indonesia steadily rising—reaching 22.11 million investors as of November 2024 and transaction value hitting IDR 81.41 trillion—the regulation is expected to bring greater legal certainty to the industry while strengthening state tax revenues.
To facilitate open discussion among taxpayers, industry players, and practitioners, the MUC Bijak Webinar returns with the theme:
"Indonesia’s Crypto Tax Transformation: From Commodity to Financial Instrument—The Industry Must Adapt."
