As of July 2025, Digital Tax Contributions Reach IDR 40 Trillion

JAKARTA. Tax revenue from the digital economy sector continues to grow. As of the end of July 2025, the government has successfully collected IDR 40.02 trillion from various digital tax instruments.
According to Rosmauli, Director of Dissemination, Services, and Public Relations at the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT), this achievement comes from four main sources:
- VAT on Trade Through Electronic Systems (PMSE): IDR 31.06 trillion
- Tax on crypto assets: IDR 1.55 trillion
- Fintech tax (peer-to-peer lending): IDR 3.88 trillion
Tax through the Government Procurement Information System (SIPP): IDR 3.53 trillion
Rosmauli stated that the positive trend in tax revenue growth demonstrates the significant role of the digital sector in strengthening the country’s fiscal space while also promoting a fairer, competitive environment among businesses.
“The tax contributions from the digital economy sector show a positive trend, whether from VAT on PMSE, crypto tax, fintech tax, or SIPP tax. These do not just strengthen fiscal space, but also help create a level playing field between conventional and digital businesses. The implementation of digital taxation is not a new tax; rather, it is an adjustment in the collection mechanism to make it more practical and efficient for businesses,” Rosmauli concluded.
Since its introduction in 2020, VAT on PMSE has shown significant growth, from just IDR 731.4 billion in 2020, jumping to IDR 8.44 trillion in 2024, and continuing to rise to IDR 5.72 trillion in the first half of 2025.
Currently, the government has appointed 223 global and local companies as VAT collectors for PMSE. In July 2025, three new companies were added to the list, namely Scalable Hosting Solutions OÜ, Express Technologies Limited, and Finelo Limited. On the other hand, the appointments of Evernote GmbH, To The New Singapore Pte. Ltd., and Epic Games Entertainment International GmbH were revoked.
Contribution from Crypto Tax
In addition to VAT on PMSE, taxes from crypto assets have also begun to show meaningful contributions. Total revenue from crypto as of July 2025 reached IDR 1.55 trillion, consisting of Income Tax Article 22 (IDR 730.41 billion) and Domestic VAT (IDR 819.94 billion).
Taxes from fintech are also significant. As of July 2025, the revenue had reached IDR 3.88 trillion, with the majority coming from Domestic VAT and interest income tax received by both domestic and foreign taxpayers.
Meanwhile, SIPP Tax, which originates from government procurement transactions, was also recorded at IDR 3.53 trillion. The majority of this amount was contributed by VAT, amounting to IDR 3.29 trillion. (KEN)
