JAKARTA. Indonesia's Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has clarified that Babinsa (Village Supervisory Non-Commissioned Officers) and Bhabinkamtibmas (Bhayangkara Community Security and Order Officers) will not be involved in tax monitoring, audits, tax collection, or tax law enforcement.
The clarification was made by Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto in a written statement issued on Tuesday (July 21).
"Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas are not tax officers and have no authority to conduct tax monitoring, audits, tax collection, or tax law enforcement," Bimo said.
The statement was issued in response to public concerns following the release of the Director General of Taxes Circular Letter No. SE-8/PJ/2026. According to Bimo, the roles of Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas are limited to providing data and information support.
He therefore urged the public to remain calm and not to worry about the issuance of SE-8/PJ/2026, emphasizing that neither Babinsa nor Bhabinkamtibmas will assess taxpayers' compliance, collect taxes, audit taxpayers, or carry out any other tax enforcement activities.
"All tax-related authorities remain the responsibility of DGT officials in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations," Bimo stressed.
In addition to supporting the provision of data and information, the DGT may coordinate with Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas to facilitate field operations, including assisting with on-site activities when necessary.
The DGT may also coordinate with other government institutions, including ministries, agencies, regional governments, and other local administrative authorities, to support the implementation of its duties. (KEN)
