Digital Tax Reaches IDR 41.09 Trillion as of August 2025

JAKARTA. The government continues to rely on the digital sector as one of the sources of tax revenue. As of the end of August 2025, digital tax contributions were recorded at IDR 41.09 trillion.

This revenue consists of Value Added Tax (VAT) on Trade Through Electronic Systems (PMSE) amounting to IDR 31.85 trillion, tax on crypto assets amounting to IDR 1.61 trillion, fintech tax (peer-to-peer lending) amounting to IDR 3.99 trillion, and tax collected by other parties through the Government Procurement Information System (SIPP Tax) amounting to IDR 3.63 trillion.

Director of Dissemination, Services, and Public Relations of th Directorate General of Taxes, Rosmauli, stated that the contribution of digital tax further affirms its role in supporting the State Budget (APBN).

“With a realization of IDR 41.09 trillion, digital tax further affirms its role as a key driver of state revenue in this digital era,” she said in an official statement, Friday (26/9).

Rosmauli added that this positive trend is expected to continue in line with the increasing number of VAT-Registered Persons for PMSE, as well as the growth of the fintech and crypto industries. In addition, the optimization of digital systems in the government procurement sector is also believed to strengthen the tax revenue base.

As of August 2025, the government has appointed 236 companies as VAT collectors for PMSE. In the same month, there were four new appointments, namely Blackmagic Design Asia Pte Ltd, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., PIA Private Internet Access, Inc, and Neon Commerce Inc. Meanwhile, the appointment of TP Global Operations Limited was revoked.

Since it was first implemented, PMSE VAT has shown a revenue growth trend. From IDR 731.4 billion in 2020, revenue increased to IDR 3.90 trillion in 2021, IDR 5.51 trillion in 2022, IDR 6.76 trillion in 2023, IDR 8.44 trillion in 2024, and reached IDR 6.51 trillion as of August 2025.

A similar trend is also seen in revenue from crypto tax, fintech, and SIPP. Crypto tax revenue, for instance, reached IDR 522.82 billion in 2025, while fintech tax contributed IDR 952.55 billion, and SIPP tax amounted to IDR 786.3 billion in the same period. (KEN)
