Newly Appointed, Director General of Taxes Bimo Still Reviewing Coretax System

JAKARTA. The newly appointed Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, has finally spoken about the latest tax administration system, Coretax. He admitted that he is still in the process of thoroughly studying the system, in line with directions from Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
“It’s not finished yet. I’ll need about a week of one-on-one sessions to fully understand Coretax. But at the very least, we’ll make use of the detention period until December,” Bimo told reporters at the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Tuesday (27/5), as quoted by cnbcindonesia.com.
Bimo also stated that Sri Mulyani had instructed him to map out various unresolved issues within the Directorate General of Taxes. He emphasized that over the next month, he will focus on identifying strategic issues before holding a press briefing with more thematic and comprehensive explanations.
“The Minister of Finance has asked me to spend this month really mapping out all pending matters and strategic issues. After that, I will hold a complete, thematic press briefing,” he said.
In terms of the direction of tax reform policy, Bimo emphasized that integration is the key word. The main focus of the reform includes the integration of data, systems, human resources (HR), and institutional structures.
“From our consultations with the President, there are at least three main areas. The keyword is ‘integrated.’ So it’s about the integrity of our data, our system, our human capital, and our institution. That’s the focus for now,” Bimo explained.
For context, out of the 21 identified issues in the implementation of the Coretax system, three have been resolved so far, namely in the areas of business intelligence, knowledge management, and third-party data management. (KEN)
