The Government Launches an Economic Stimulus Package During the School Holidays

JAKARTA. The government has officially launched the Q2 2025 economic stimulus aimed at sustaining public purchasing power and stimulating national economic growth. This program will be implemented during the June–July 2025 school holidays, with a focus on electricity discounts, toll tariff reductions, food assistance, and wage subsidies for workers.
The policy was announced following a Ministerial-Level Limited Coordination Meeting (Rakortas) led by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, held on Friday, May 23. The stimulus measures will take effect starting June 5, 2025.
“The Q2-2025 Economic Stimulus has been thoroughly discussed in the Ministerial-Level Rakortas on Friday (23/05), chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs and attended by Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Leaders/Representatives of relevant Ministries/Agencies. The meeting concluded with an agreement to begin implementing all economic stimulus programs starting June 5, 2025,” said Susiwijono Moegiarso, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, in an official statement quoted from the ministry's official website on Tuesday, May 27.
2025 Economic Stimulus Package During School Holidays
Here is a breakdown of the economic stimulus programs provided by the government during the school holiday period:
1. Public Transportation Discounts
To support public mobility, the government is offering:
- 30% discount on train tickets
- 6% VAT reduction on airline tickets
- 50% discount on sea transportation tickets
These incentives are valid from early June to mid-July 2025.
2. 20% Toll Road Tariff Discount
Toll road users will enjoy a 20% discount, targeting approximately 110 million travelers during the school holiday period. The scheme is similar to discounts provided during Eid and Christmas–New Year holidays.
3. Electricity Tariff Discounts for Households
Approximately 79.3 million electricity customers with power capacity ≤1300 VA will receive a 50% discount on electricity tariffs, effective from June 5 to July 31, 2025. This measure is intended to ease the financial burden on low-income households.
4. Social and Food Assistance
The government is also enhancing its social assistance programs with:
- An additional IDR 200,000/month balance on the Food Assistance Card (Kartu Sembako)
- 10 kg of rice per month in food aid
Both aid forms will be distributed to approximately 18.3 million beneficiary families (KPM).
5. Wage Subsidy Assistance (BSU)
A total of 20 million individuals will receive a wage subsidy of IDR 150,000 per month, including:
- 17 million workers earning up to IDR 3.5 million/month
- 3.4 million honorary teachers
The subsidy will be disbursed in full in June 2025.
6. Work Accident Insurance (JKK) Premium Discount
To support labor-intensive sectors, the government is granting a 50% discount on JKK insurance premiums for six months, from August 2025 to January 2026.
Boosting Household Consumption
Haryo Limanseto, Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, emphasized that this stimulus package reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining economic stability and strengthening the people's purchasing power.
“The school holiday period is a strategic opportunity to boost household consumption. The government is stepping in to ensure sustained economic growth.”

The entire stimulus program will be coordinated across ministries, including the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
Its implementation will also be supported by state-owned enterprises (BUMN), such as BULOG, PLN, and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. (KEN)
