Tax Refunds Increase 36.4% as of October 2025
JAKARTA. The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) revealed that the amount of tax overpayment refunds, or restitutions, reached IDR 340.52 trillion as of the end of October 2025.
According to bisnis.com, this amount increased sharply by 36.4% compared to the restitution value in the same period in 2024, which was only IDR 249.59 trillion year on year.
The realization of restitutions consists of corporate income tax refunds amounting to IDR 93.80 trillion, an 80% increase from the previous year’s IDR 53.12 trillion. Meanwhile, value-added tax (VAT) refunds reached IDR 238.86 trillion, or a 23.9% increase from last year’s IDR 192.72 trillion. Restitutions for other types of taxes rose 65.7% from IDR 4.75 trillion last year to IDR 7.87 trillion in October 2025.
Refunds Cut Revenue
The increase in restitutions has contributed to a decline in tax revenue from January to October 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
According to records from the Ministry of Finance, tax revenue as of October 31, 2025, amounted to IDR 1.459 trillion. Meanwhile, tax revenue as of October 31, 2024, reached IDR 1.5175 trillion.
Despite reducing tax revenue, DGT considers that the payment of restitutions has a positive impact on economic growth, as it increases taxpayers’ cash flow. (ASP/KEN)
