July 2025 Inflation at 0.30%, Driven by Rice Prices and School Fees

JAKARTA. The rise in staple food prices and school fees once again triggered inflation in July. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that the country’s inflation rate in July 2025 reached 0.30 percent month-on-month (mtm). The price increases were driven by various commodities, particularly rice and school fees.
“The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose from 108.27 in June to 108.60 in July 2025,” said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, during a press conference on Friday (1/8), as quoted from cnnindonesia.com.
Not only on a monthly basis, inflation was also recorded at 2.37 percent year-on-year (yoy) and 1.69 percent year-to-date (ytd).
The largest contributor to July’s inflation came from the food, beverage, and tobacco group, with an inflation rate of 0.74 percent and a contribution of 0.22 percentage points. “The commodity with the greatest impact was rice, contributing 0.06 percentage points to inflation,” Pudji explained.
This was followed by tomatoes and shallots (each contributing 0.05 percentage points), bird’s eye chilies (0.04 percentage points), and gasoline (0.03 percentage points). In addition, broiler chicken eggs and primary school tuition each contributed 0.02 percentage points to the monthly inflation rate.
Highest Inflation in Papua Pegunungan
By region, BPS recorded that 37 provinces experienced monthly inflation, with the highest in Papua Pegunungan at 1.65 percent. Meanwhile, only one province experienced deflation, Papua, where prices fell by 0.34 percent.
For annual inflation, all 38 provinces in Indonesia recorded price increases. The highest annual inflation was in South Papua at 5.45 percent, while the lowest was in West Papua at just 0.43 percent.
