Tax office offers dispensation to taxpayers in Lombok
The Finance Ministry’s taxation director general, Robert Pakpahan, said on Thursday that the government was offering dispensation to taxpayers in earthquake-hit Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara.
“We will allow taxpayers in Lombok to be late in paying their taxes,” Robert said in Jakarta as reported by kompas.com during a press conference at the Jakarta Customs and Excise Office.
The move was taken because economic activity had slowed down after a series of earthquakes hit the resort island, claiming more than 500 lives, damaging infrastructure and affecting the area's economy, including local tourism.
The dispensation is also being offered to taxpayers who have businesses in Lombok even if they do not live in the province, Robert said, adding that another type of dispensation was the elimination of fines for those who failed to pay taxes that were due as from July 29.
“Annual tax returns and payment of taxes can be submitted three months after the end of the emergency,” said Robert.
