Ambitious, Government Sets 2026 Tax Revenue Target to Grow by 13.5%

JAKARTA. The Indonesian government has set a tax revenue target of IDR 2,357.7 trillion in the 2026 Draft State Budget (RAPBN 2026), marking a 13.5% increase from the projected 2025 realization.
“This is indeed an ambitious target,” said Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati during a press conference on the 2026 Draft Budget on Friday (August 15).
To achieve this, Sri Mulyani outlined several strategic measures, including the optimization of the Coretax system and data exchange synergy with other ministries and agencies.
Optimizing Digital Tax Collection
The government also plans to implement digital tax collection systems for both domestic and cross-border transactions.
Additional efforts include continuing joint data analysis programs and reinforcing tax compliance audits and monitoring.
Sri Mulyani emphasized that despite the push for higher revenues, the government will continue providing incentives to support household purchasing power, boost investment, and promote downstream industrialization.
Customs and Excise Revenue Target
Meanwhile, the government has set a customs and excise revenue target of IDR 334.3 trillion for 2026, reflecting a 7.7% increase from the projected 2025 revenue.
To reach this target, the government will strengthen policies on tobacco products and expand the scope of excisable goods. It will also intensify the application of import duties in international trade and use export duty policies to support the downstream processing of domestic products.
Lastly, the government will enforce regulations and crack down on the circulation of illegal excisable goods and smuggling. (ASP/KEN)
