Marketplace Income Tax Rule Put on Hold Over Economic Concerns

JAKARTA. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has decided to postpone the policy requiring marketplaces to collect Income Tax due to current economic conditions.
Previously, under Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 37 of 2025, the government planned to designate marketplaces as collectors of Article 22 Income Tax from transactions carried out by sellers on their platforms.
However, according to Purbaya, as quoted by kontan.co.id, the policy has sparked public controversy, prompting the ministry to temporarily delay its implementation.
The postponement is being made because Purbaya wants to first observe the impact of the government’s Rp200 trillion fund placement policy, which is aimed at stimulating the national economy.
He emphasized that the delay is not due to administrative unpreparedness. According to him, the administrative system at the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) is ready to implement the policy.
Under the regulation, which officially took effect on June 14, 2025, the government designated e-commerce platforms as collectors of final Article 22 Income Tax at a rate of 0.5%.
This tax collection would be applied by appointed e-commerce platforms on online sellers with gross income exceeding IDRd500 million and annual revenue above IDR4.8 billion. (ASP/KEN)
